Best Novels That Were A MOVIE First!

I imagine that when all of us were growing up, we thought we knew it all. As time would eventually tell us, we were a bit ignorant, silly, some might say stupid. That includes me.

Recently, I’ve been reminded of my foolishness as a youth. I just got done reading a book, and I was a bit hesitant to even start the book because I just loved the movie so dang much. This happened not once, not twice, but three times.

That’s right, on three different occasions I was hesitant to start a book because I didn’t want it to ruin the movie. If anything, the movies tend to ruin the books. How unwise we can be at times.

So, what film/book was I talking about exactly?

Life of Pi.

That’s right. Boy is on the ship, the ship sinks. Boy is saved because he got in a lifeboat, but the lifeboat is filled with zoo animals. I don’t want to ruin what happens next...but the movie came out in 2012 and I remember seeing it in theaters. What an experience. In 2020, I read the book, again, what an experience. I will say the movie is pretty darn close to the book.

So what about the other two times?

Jurassic Park. I LOVE all of the Jurassic Park films, Jurassic World too! What kid didn’t love dinosaurs as a rugrat? But when I tell you that movie left so much out of the book, please believe me. The movie is for sure a classic! But it really only covers maybe 20% of the book, they left out so much. The book is a longer read, but it is needed for all the detail that Michael Crichton describes to the reader.

Finally, this may come as a surprise to you. Did you know Forrest Gump is based on a book? For the longest time, I know I did not know that! The movie, hands down, one of all the time greats. But yet again, there is so much to know about Forrest. Did you know he was once abandoned on an island? His dad died in a banana accident. Or the fact that he smoked weed and was in a band! Don’t believe me? Read the book! This book legitimately made me laugh out loud.

And since i’m feeling generous, my all time favorite movie, Into The Wild, is based off a book but I love them so much that I will say nothing but to read and watch them both.

Please remember to be kind! & shop Bring the Stoke.
