How To Make A New Year's Resolution & Stay With It!

January is coming up. You know what that means. A bunch of dreamers are going to dream big & fail even harder. New Year’s resolutions are great (ideally) but a new year isn’t going to magically make you lose 20 lbs or stop buying overpriced coffees. Sadly, it doesn’t work like that.

Why don’t they work?

  • Unrealistic dream
  • It is a “want” not a “need”
  • Not a priority in your life
  • No plan
  • Your wife/husband/friend/mom/dad whoever made you do one
  • You want it NOW
  • Simply don’t put any effort into it

I’ve been thinking about something specifically for awhile now that ties into New Year’s resolutions. Habits.

About this time last year, I was training for a marathon. I had a goal and a plan to get me to that goal. I was running about 45 miles a week between four weekly runs. That’s over 10 miles per run *to any runner reading this, my training plan wasn’t all long runs, don’t worry* for most people that would be the hardest part of training. But for me, it was my past habits. Saying no to ice cream. Going to sleep at a decent hour to recover more. Not procrastinating & doing your homework right away. Stop looking at memes on Instagram because that’s not helping you. There are so many more habits I had to break.

I wish I could say this story has a happy ending but ultimately, I never ran the marathon because of covid-19. But my point is for you to achieve ANYTHING, you must change and make sacrifices to your current habits. Say goodbye to junk food & say hello to making your own coffee at home.

Life is nothing but a bunch of memories & habits. The better your habits are, the better the memories tend to me. Remember that.
